Strenghs was the acting provide by Tennant, Minougue, Palmer
and a quality cast.

The Downfall:

RTD imposing his nihilistic atheistic view of Christmas.

The more RTD writes, the more he makes a mockery of himself.

Christmas Invasion was good.
After that it is Gridlock downhill a la Midnight and many here knows that I
view that as Love and Monsters tripe.

RTD, NEVER make a 'CHristmas' story UNLESS it involves the Virgin Birth
of Christ. That it might be worth it.

So RTD the only way you can make good Christmas scripts
is that if you keep the Christ in Christmas.

I can`t remember anything overtly atheistic about this story at
all...although I haven`t felt compelled to watch it since. It was fairly
rubbish. Have you ever seen RTD`s `The Second Coming`? It`s one of his
better scripts IMO and is far from nihilistic...but would probably offend
the hell out of you.

If this were written as an actual script for television it would be
hilarious...can you imagine it? `I`m pregnant Joseph!` `What? But we`ve
never had sex!` `Oh, don`t worry, I`ve just been infused with the power of
God who has impregnanted me, I haven`t been sleeping around or anything`. At
this point it seems hardly likely that Joseph would have taken this at face
value and gone completely off on one. I mean seriously, can you imagine it?
What sort of idiot would fall for a line like that? Can you imagine him out
with his mates for the night? `My wife`s pregnant`. `Bloody hell, that was
quick Jo, you haven`t been with her long`. `Oh it`s not like that, honest.
She hasn`t let me get off first base yet but she assures me she hasn`t slept
with anyone else, says it`s just been put there by God. Why should I
disbelieve her?` He`d be the laughing stock of the estate!

I can pretty much guarantee that any RTD Xmas story with christ in it would
get you absolutely fuming. I hope he writes one!

Here's Philip Pullman's take on Mary's pregnancy:

At that time, Mary was about sixteen years old, and Joseph had never touched
her.

One night in her bedroom she heard a whisper through her window.

"Mary, do you know how beautiful you are? You are the most lovely of all
women. The Lord must have favoured you especially, to be so sweet and so
gracious, to have such eyes and such lips . . ."

She was confused, and said "Who are you?"

"I am an angel," said the voice. "Let me in and I shall tell you a secret
that only you must know."

She opened the window and let him in. In order not to frighten her, he had
assumed the appearance of a young man, just like one of the young men who
spoke to her by the well.

"What is the secret?" she said.

"You are going to conceive a child," said the angel.

Mary was bewildered.

"But my husband is away," she said.

"Ah, the Lord wants this to happen at once. I have come from him especially
to bring it about. Mary, you are blessed among women, that this should come
to you! You must give thanks to the Lord."

And that very night she conceived a child, just as the angel foretold.

When Joseph came home from the work that had taken him away, he was dismayed
beyond measure to find his wife expecting a child. He hid his head in his
cloak, he threw himself to the ground, he wept bitterly, he covered himself
with ashes.

"Lord," he cried, "forgive me! Forgive me! What sort of care is this? I took
this child as a virgin from the temple, and look at her now! I should have
kept her safe, but I left her alone just as Adam left Eve, and look, the
serpent has come to her in the same way!"

He called her to him and said "Mary, my poor child, what have you done? You
that were so pure and good, to have betrayed your innocence! Who is the man
that did this?"

She wept bitterly, and said "I've done no wrong, I swear! I have never been
touched by a man! It was an angel that came to me, because God wanted me to
conceive a child!"

Joseph was troubled. If this was really God's will, it must be his duty to
look after her and the child. But it would look bad all the same.
Nevertheless, he said no more.

No such thing as a statute of limitation on spoilers. Not everyone sees
a program when it has aired or long after. I haven't watched this
episode yet.

I'm not expecting anyone to put a million lines of space above an older
show, but I expect them not to put spoilers in the headlines.

The day I went to sit down and watch Soylent Green a few years ago,
someone made a post in the movie newsgroup stating the obvious. Ruined
it for me.

So nothing is off limits. It takes no effort to avoid putting spoilers
in the headlines. As off-his-rocker as The Doctor is, he does have the
sense to warn people.

Christmas is a pagan festival. If you want to celebrate the birth of
christ, go ahead...no one is stopping you. That involves a mass and you
go home.

The rest of us will put up plastic trees, wait for Santa, give presents,
put up lights, light a yule log, eat turkey etc. All pagan rituals.

Oh, and I watched Gridlock the other night. I think you're seeing things
that aren't there.

Oh wait...you think there's a god out there...my bad.

You ARE seeing things that aren't there.

No such thing as satan. He was dreamed up by a people who couldn't
comprehend the most fundamental natural phenomenon around them.

You're believing the words about god from a people who couldn't figure
out thunder and lightning, life, death, eclipses, comets, coma,
blindness, epilepsy.

Oh, speaking of epilepsy, the same people who wrote about your god
thought the devil was in epileptics...so they stoned them to death.

That's the people who are your source for religion. They couldn't figure
out a simple disease...yet you think they were smart enough to figure
out that there is an all powerful god. LOL. I can think of any number of
mental disorders that make them believe they hear voices.

There is a god and she is a woman. Her name is Mother Nature. Today,
we're intelligent enough to understand her. We don't need to make up
fairy tales to keep us from being frightened by simple natural occurrences.

The people who wrote the bible did.

If you look beyond the surface labels and language there's no difference
between science, politics, or religion. I strongly suggest people look
beyond the surface issues because it just obstructs understanding. This is
not a defence of misinterpretation or stupidity but an encouragement to drop
encumbrances that get in the way.

Take for instance the Christian theology that "all men strive to know God"
or "God is quiet thunder". This is just a poetic /form/ of knowledge which
can also be wrapped up in hard psychology. When discussing capitalism versus
communism and the market in cutting edge economic terms you might as well
discuss the Tao - another 6000 year old religious tradition. It's all saying
the /same/ thing just in different ways. Animistic religions like Shinto are
similarly illuminating.

I proposed about 15 years ago that incorrect reasoning was by definition
mental illness. A few years later someone did a Phd on the same thing and it
became part of modern psychology. (I have a big mouth and get around). The
gist of the theory is the difference between sanity and reality, and mental
illness and delusion was a matter of degree. Whether you look at this on an
individual, organisation, or global level we all suffer from or are
influenced by mental illness or what Buddhism might call ego to some degree.

God? Woman? Mother nature? Understand? Gimme a break.
